Fan Tan: the new Evolution game!
At the end of 2021, Evolution Gaming unveiled its roadmap for the end of the year with a list of exciting new games. Players didn't have to wait long to see Starburst XXXTreme, the first game on this list, unveiled at online casinos. Developed by Red Tiger Gaming, the software provider acquired earlier by Evolution, this slot marked the very beginning of the implementation of this famous roadmap.
Not too long ago, we presented the brand-new live game from the same provider: Cash or Crash. Based on the famous instant games, the sensation of the moment, the release of this game attracted a large number of players from the very beginning.
In this article, a new live game takes center stage, this time featuring a table game. Here, Lucky7Bonus introduces you to Fan Tan Live, a high-quality creation from Evolution Gaming, and describes exactly how it works and what the rules of this exhilarating game entail.
Evolution Gaming in a nutshell
If you've ever visited a trustworthy online casino, such as Millionz Casino, then you've probably already heard of Evolution Gaming. This company is a highly reputable online gaming supplier, and is widely regarded as one of the major players in online gambling. They design, develop and publish slot machines and other high-quality online games.
Evolution is no mere provider, but a veritable gambling market giant. This company has succeeded in creating a leading position for itself by setting itself apart from its competition with the implementation of thoroughly innovative ideas. To bring the feel of the land-based casino to online players, Evolution has set up studios in which table games with real dealers are filmed for live broadcast on gaming platforms.
Players immediately loved this proximity and realism, which propelled the provider to new heights. In addition to the classic table games, the team had the incredible idea of setting up a kind of game show in which players could take part, again with a host in a studio, all broadcast live.
For the focus of today’s article, it’s a very old table game, rather popular in Asia, that Evolution offers its players, and which we’ve decided to introduce to you.
Fan Tan: An explanation of the game
Created around the time of the 3rd century, this game has retained its popularity in China for hundreds of years, yet chances are you've never played it before. Although, at first glance, it might appear to be very complicated, you'll find that its basic mechanics are quite straightforward to understand.
The game is played on a red table, where a croupier handles white marbles with a golden rake and a golden cup.
The balls are brought together using a transparent bell before a game is randomly selected using the golden cup.
This number of separate marbles is therefore selected by chance, which is the most important aspect of this game. In fact, this group of marbles will, little by little, be divided into smaller groups of 4 marbles. This will continue until only 4 marbles or less remain.
Players bet on this last result: 1, 2, 3 or 4 marbles remaining.
The different bets at Fan Tan
While the croupier (or, more often, the croupière) shuffles the balls with the bell and separates them by taking a portion from a cup, the players can place their bets.
Several types of bets are possible, some very simple, others a little more sophisticated.
Classic bets
For the simplest type of bet, you'll have 4 different outcomes to wager on:
The exact number of balls remaining at the end of the split: 1, 2, 3 or 4. If you win, you'll receive 3 times your initial bet, plus 5% commission, bringing the total multiplier to x2.85. In the event of a success, your initial stake is returned to you. Your chances of winning are then ¼ with the possibility of recovering 3.85 times your stake in total.
Even / Odd. You can also bet on the outcome by betting on an even or odd number of balls remaining after the split. An even number corresponds to 2 or 4 balls remaining, while an odd number corresponds to 1 or 3 balls remaining. If you're successful, you'll win one time your initial stake, plus 5% commission, bringing your win to 0.95 times your stake. The latter is also returned to you in the event of a success. Your chances of winning are then ½ with the possibility of recovering 1.95 times your stake in total.
Small / Large. This type of bet concerns the number of balls remaining after the split. By betting on "small", you're counting on the fact that 1 or 2 marbles will remain at the end of the countdown. If you bet on "big", you're betting on the fact that 3 or 4 marbles will remain at the end of the countdown. If you're successful, you'll win one time your initial stake, and a 5% commission will be deducted, bringing your win to 0.95 times your stake. The latter is also returned to you in the event of a success. Your chances of winning are then ½ with the possibility of recovering 1.95 times your stake in total.
Advanced betting
Other, more advanced bets are possible when playing Fan Tan. Appreciated by experienced players, these types of bets add a kind of insurance to each round of play.
Among the bets that Evolution considers to be more complicated, some are in fact very similar to classic bets: the so-called Kwok bets correspond to corner bets where the player bets on the exact result of the number of balls remaining after the split:
Kwok 1 and 4
Kwok 2 and 3
Kwok 1 and 2
Kwok 3 and 4
As you can see, the last two bets are identical to the "Small" and "Big" bets.
So-called Nim bets allow the player to recover their initial stake in certain cases where the bet loses. In addition to betting on an exact number of balls remaining after the split, the player chooses a second outcome. If one of the two bets is the correct result, the stake is recovered. On the other hand, if the first bet is won, the winnings correspond to 2 times the starting bet instead of 3.
Let's look at a simple example with a 1 Nim 3 bet. The player bets on the following result: after the pile of marbles has been separated, only one marble will remain. He still guarantees to be reimbursed if the final result is 3 marbles:
If the result is 1 marble: the player wins 2 times his initial stake, minus 5% commission, and gets his stake back.
If the result is 3 balls: the player recovers his initial stake, this result is called a push.
If the result is 2 or 4 balls: the player loses his stake.
The last type of bet that a player can make when playing Fan Tan is called Ssh bets. The player simply bets on 3 different outcomes. This gives him 3 out of 4 chances of winning. The winnings are therefore smaller, and correspond to 0.316667 times the initial bet, plus the latter is recouped.
If a player bets on Ssh 1-4-3, for example, he wins if the final result is 1, 3 or 4 balls remaining after the split. If 2 balls remain at the end of the draw, the player loses his bet.
To access advanced betting, simply click on the "more bets" icon at the bottom right-hand corner of the game screen.
Our opinion on Evolution Gaming's Fan Tan
Evolution Gaming had announced its intention to universalize this game, which is particularly popular in Asia and China, by creating its own version of Fan Tan Live. As soon as you step up to the table, you can feel the effort that has gone into the visual aspect. The red carpet, white marbles, and golden objects form a visually pleasing mix. The Zen-like ambience of the studio and the dealer's movements are soothing, almost hypnotic, and this is exactly what Evolution was aiming for. In this respect, the game is a complete success.
As for making the game accessible to Western players, the simple stakes make Fan Tan much more accessible to any novice. After a few rounds of play, or as soon as they become available for more experienced players, the advanced stakes become very interesting and help to diversify the gaming experience.
The interface itself is very detailed. It's possible to see the number of players who have bet on each different bet, as well as previous results, in a very precise table. If you open the "statistics" tab, you'll be able to see the last 500 results!
Finally, we’d like to point out that it's very likely that Fan Tan will attract more and more new players thanks to this high-quality creation released by the gaming giant Evolution.
If you’re interested in trying out Fan Tan for yourself, we highly recommend playing this thrilling online game at Millionz Casino!
